COURSE OUTLINE

The plan is for four (4) 35-minute lectures in the morning from 9 until noon, followed by a break. In the afternoon, there will be breakout meetings to discuss and expand upon ideas arising from the morning lectures. These breakout meetings will include a faculty leader and enough faculty and/or fellows to assure a good discussion.  Each lecture will have a reading assignment (to be included in the syllabus). The idea is to give the students enough reading so that the lecture can be presented at a higher than elementary level. For example, if the lecture were to be on zebrafish, then there would be readings on basic embryology and some key papers in the field so the lecturer would not need to re-cover the basics.  We also want to salt the meeting with high-tech lectures relevant to CVB.  Tentative topics are as follows:

Ethernet access is available in sleeping rooms for those who bring their laptops. Bed linen and towels are provided.  Beds are made and fresh towels are exchanged daily.  Bed linen is changed once per week during extended stays. Meal Allowance:  The nightly rates above includes a non-refundable, non-transferable $15 per day meal allowance for guests staying 3 or more nights. Upon check in, guests are issued a conference debit card. Each morning the conference card will be programmed with the prearranged daily dollar amount.  Each time guests make a purchase, the amount is deducted from the balance.  After each purchase, the remaining dollar amount shows on the cash register so guests can keep track of their remaining balances.  As there is a minimum dollar amount required to spend each day, money not spent by 7:30 p.m. will be eliminated from the guest’s conference card.  Guests who exceed their allotted balance can pay the difference in cash.

Payment:  Payment is due in full at the time the reservation is confirmed.  We accept cash, checks, purchase orders, VISA, MasterCard or American Express. Purchase order payments must be arranged in advance.

Cancellations:  Guests who cancel reservations with the Conference Services office at least 72 hours prior to scheduled arrival date will receive a full refund.   Guests who cancel less then 72 hours prior to scheduled arrival date forfeit 10% of the payment due, or one day’s room and board, whichever is greater.   If no advance cancellation is received by the Conference Services office, no refund will be issued.

Parking:  The current cost of parking is $8.00 per day Monday through Friday and $3.00 on Saturday. There is no charge to park on Sundays or holidays.  You will be required to pay for one day of parking as you enter the University gate.  This will allow you access to loading zones near the residence halls.  You may then purchase a long-term permit at check-in.
