ABOUT THE RAVEN:
Here in the Pacific Northwest, the Raven is the bringer of knowledge to man.  Raven has been the symbol for many of the cardiovascular biology activities at the University of Washington since 1966 when the symbol served as the logo for the Ninth International Vascular Biology Meeting in Seattle.

ABOUT VASCULATA:
"Vasculata" is a joke on the term "Chordata" and refers to the fact that the closed vascular system first appears in evolution ... which is more important the notochord or the vascular tree? Shouldn't our phylum be called "Vasculata?"
